Elko County is in Nevada and the fourth largest county by area in the contiguous United States. This is where you can get lost in the mountains and still be close enough to the city to enjoy all it offers. Elko County inhabits some of Nevada’s most unique wilderness as the gateway to the Ruby Mountains. It has great fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, and many other outdoor activities. If you are looking for adventure or want to enjoy peace and quiet, this is the place for you!

Elko County Neighbors

Elko County’s northern neighbors are Oregon and Idaho. California is to the west, and Utah is to the east. And on the southern side is Arizona.

Elko County as a Hub

It is a rural county described as a high desert and a hub for transportation. Interstate 80 runs through the county along with Amtrak, Greyhound bus service, and a regional airport with Skywest Airlines as the primary carrier for that location.

Elko Weather

The area gets about 300 inches of snow, so you have activities for skiers with backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. You will not lack activities in the area, no matter the season.

Well-Known for Big Game Hunting & Fishing

Elko County is home to some of Nevada’s best big-game hunting. The Elko and Ruby Mountains are among the most famous areas for hunting, with thousands of acres set aside for deer, elk, bear, and antelope.

Elko County also has some excellent fishing opportunities. Whether you’re fishing in one of our many lakes or streams or on one of our rivers (the Humboldt River runs through Elko), you’ll find plenty to enjoy here!

Just Over Half of the County is Public Land

Elko County may be the place for you if you’re a nature lover. 52% of the county is public land, meaning you can hike and explore freely without paying an entrance fee or worrying about private property lines. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages over 2 million acres in Elko County, so if you want to enjoy solitude while taking in some stunning scenery, this is your chance!

The BLM’s mission statement is: “Managing America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.” The organization manages more than 245 million acres across the country; they are responsible for protecting important natural resources like wildlife and endangered species and providing recreation opportunities such as hiking and biking trails.

If you are looking for outdoor adventure, this is the place to be!

Elko County is a beautiful place to be. It has plenty of outdoor activities, and many people have rated it as one of the best places to live in America. Elko County is known for its outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, and hiking. This place is perfect if you want fun times with friends and family!

There are so many things to do here, such as catching fish from streams that run through forests full of trees! Hiking through those forests will give you access to such places where deer roam freely without worrying about hunters taking them away from their families at home because they live peacefully together even though they still get scared sometimes when something unexpected happens while trying new things out like running around
